My Desert Island Clean Non-Toxic Skincare Essentials: Pt. 1

If I got stranded on a desert island and could only have one beauty product, I’d get nuttier than Tom Hanks when he was in that movie where he got trapped in the airport terminal for several years without Wilson to keep him company. If your idea of a good time is dousing yourself in luxurious beauty oils while wearing loose pants, then you might be in the right place. On my desert island, we have a very detailed self-care and wellness routine. I have tried hundreds of face and beauty products for my dry, sensitive skin. My skin has definitely seen many improvements after committing to cleaner, less toxic and inflammatory beauty products and food.

One might say I have a beauty product problem. I say I have a self-care habit. Anyone else with me? Also, I am confused as to why we are labeling non-edible beauty items as “vegan.” Anyways, these are my top “must have” clean(er) skincare products for very dry, sensitive skin, identified after rather serious and extensive research, for your “clean girl” or “clean beauty” adventures.

biossance squlane vitamin c face oil

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil

This face oil from the Reese Witherspoon-fronted clean skincare brand is the only face product with vitamin C that does not give me an inflammatory reaction. I have had some rare, yet still nasty, rashes from vitamin C products, but not from this one. It’s lightweight and I wear it on top of moisturizer during the day. It also makes your skin brighter and more glow-y. One of my staples!

heritage store rose oil

Rose Heritage Store Organic Rosehip Seed Oil, Damask Rose, Squalane Oil

I would like to run away with this luxurious face oil. It is so moisturizing and more affordable than some of the other products on this list. This hydrating oil is excellent for dry skin, and I also like many of the other products from this brand. It’s better to use it on top of moisturizer. It is also a bit heavier than the Biossance face oil.

plum beauty oil le prunier

Le Prunier Plum Beauty Oil

I learned about this award-winning face oil after Chrissy Teigen professed her love for it. This is definitely a heavier face oil and better for nighttime on top of face moisturizer. This made my skin softer and is one of my favorites. It’s also a helpful product if you regularly use micro-acid exfoliating peels at home that might dry your skin out.

MARA Natural Evening Primrose + Green Tea Algae Retinol Face Oil

My skin cannot handle too much harsh retinol. At 1% clean retinol, this is my favorite gentle “anti- aging” and non-toxic retinol face product for sensitive skin. I use it a few times a week on top of moisturizer and hyaluronic acid serum.

The INKEY List Hyaluronic Acid Serum

At only $10, this very lightweight serum hydrates skin and can be layered under any beauty product. It’s a lot less heavier than face oil and is a staple in my skincare routine, no matter the season.

Farmacy honey halo moisturizer

Farmacy Ceramide Face Moisturizer - Honey Halo Hydrating Facial Moisturizer

This face moisturizer is the only moisturizing face cream on this list because it is the only one I use now after trying tons of other face creams and moisturizers. It is excellent for hydrating sensitive, aging, and dry skin. I use it every day, under tinted moisturizer like Saie Slip Tint SPF 35 Tinted Moisturizer.
